Eligibility Criteria To Sponsor Your Dependent

To sponsor your partner, child or family, you must meet the below criteria.

  • You must be atleast 18 years old.
  • You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or registered in Canada as an Indian.
  • You can provide basic needs to the person whom you sponsor.
  • Prove that you are not receiving any social assistance for any reason other than disability.
  • You must not be a person who was sponsored by your family and living in Canada for less than 5 years.
  • You must haven’t committed criminal activity.

Whom Can You Sponsor?

You can sponsor your Spouse, Conjugal Partner, Dependent Children or Common-Law Partner.

Spouse

  • Your spouse must be atleast 18 years old and must be legally married to you.

Conjugal Partner

  • Your spouse must be atleast 18 years old and must be legally married to you.
  • You both must be in a relationship with each other for more than 1 year.
  • Your partner lives outside Canada.
  • You can’t marry your partner in which they reside due to any reasons like marital status, sexual orientation or persecution.

Dependent Children

  • Your child must be below 22 years old and must not have any spouse or common-law partner.
  • If your child is above 22 years old but physically or mentally disabled, he will be considered dependent.
  • They are dependent on you for financial support for a long time.

Common-Law Partner

  • Your partner must be atleast 18 years old and shouldn’t be legally married to you.
  • Have been living with you for consecutive 12 months without any long breaks.

Here is the entire application process:

Application package

Get the application package that consists of the documents required for both of you, forms that need to be filled and submitted and an instruction guide to fill the data correctly.

Application Fee

Pay the application fees for processing the application and biometrics.

Submit the application

After filling all the information in the application, you can either mail or submit it through courier.

Send Additional Information

During application processing, we might ask you for more documents like medical or police certificates.

Arrival in Canada

After your sponsored family arrives at the port of entry, they must show the below documents to the immigration office.

⦁ Any other documents that are asked you to bring
⦁ Your sponsored person must inform the officer of the cash, stocks, bonds, money order etc., they have brought with them.
